P-FAS Hearings Today

Hearings begin today in the U-S House on P-FAS… the chemicals used in many products and in fire-fighting foam used on airplanes at airports and military bases.
The PFAS Detection Act authorizes $45 million for the U.S. Geological Survey to conduct nationwide sampling and develop new advanced technologies to detect the chemicals.
Michigan congressman Dan Kildee is the sponsor of the bill in the House.
Michigan has more known P-FAS sites, but that’s because Michigan developed a comprehensive program to find water contamination as a result of the Flint water emergency.

The updated map shows that PFAS contamination is truly a nationwide problem, impacting millions of Americans in hundreds of communities,” said Phil Brown, a professor of sociology and health sciences at Northeastern University and director of the Social Science Environmental Health Research Institute.
