Guards Walk Off Job In Some Detroit Buildings

Security guards at several Downtown Detroit buildings are on strike.

The guards are employed by Secur-America. They work at several buildings owned by the real estate company of Dan Gilbert. They include the First National Building, One Campus Martius, One Woodward, Chrysler House, Chase Tower, Ally Center and Federal Reserve.

Workers are demanding a $15 per hour minimum wage. Janitors represented by the Service Employees International union who work in buildings say they will not cross picket lines.
The union is trying to organize the guards. The SEIU is behind the actions by some fast-food workers who demand $15 an hour.
