The auto industry is getting some good news about tariffs.
President Trump is poised to delay auto tariffs for up to 6 months. Tariffs on China have been the front-burner issue, but talks are also going on with the European Union and Japan. Imposing auto tariffs on China would blow up the other negotiations.
The administration is nearing a deal with Canada and Mexico on removing tariffs on U-S steel and aluminum, the new NAFTA, which would give a further boost to auto’s.
Quota’s on imports would replace tariffs. That could become the framework of an eventual trade agreement with China.
