Detroit Land Swaps Help FCA Project

Detroit makes a deal to advance construction of Fiat Chrysler’s new Jeep plant.

Hantz Farms will pick up 80 abandoned properties in the land swap.

Hantz will give 37 parcels of land for FCA parking and for stormwater retention. Hantz will receive 80 properties from the land bank. Hantz already owns roughly 2,000 parcels on the east side for Hantz Woodlands, an urban tree farm.
FCA plans to turn it’s engine plants on Mack Avenue into an assembly plant. FCA plans to expand the Jefferson North plant. It says about 5,000 jobs will be added.
The city is trying to assemble the land needed for expansion.
