UAW Puts Together Contract Priorities

The UAW is holding it’s collective bargaining convention. The meeting will set the agenda for contract talks with the Detroit 3 automakers.
The current contracts run out in mid September.
UAW officers will set priorities and strategy for the contract talks and set up committees for each of the automakers.

GM is implementing job cuts and factory closings…. Ford is looking at possible cutbacks with a restructuring… and Fiat Chrysler is adding production, jobs, and planning a new assembly plant.
The union hopes to alter GM’s plan to ‘unallocate’ plants set for closing… putting a new twist on the usual push for job security.
In the background is a federal investigation into a bribery conspiracy involving some former union and Fiat Chrysler officials, and the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
