Westland Jail Death In Court

A preliminary exam is scheduled for today for a former Westland Police Sergeant and 2 paramedics in the December, 2017 death of an inmate being held in the Westland jail.

Prosecutors say 36 year old William Marshall was being held on a drug charge began convulsing.

Then Sergeant Ronald Buckley called EMS.

Paramedics Matt Dicosola and Leah Maynard arrived about ten minutes later.

Prosecutors says neither took Marshal’s vital signs and concluded that he was not having a seizure.

He was then put back in his cell, but continued to convulse. The prosecutor saysย  that Buckley took no further further action until Marshallย  was spotted motionless.

He was then pulled from his cell and CPR were used unsuccessfully to try to revive him.

The three have been charged with involuntary manslaughter, a 15 year felony.
