Pain Doc Jailed As Flight Risk

A federal court magistrate kept a wealthy Bloomfield Hills doctor in jail as he awaits trial for one of the largest health care fraud cases ever in the U-S.
Dr. Rajendra Bothra posed a threat to flee the country, according to the magistrate. Bothra is from India, has millions of dollars in foreign banks, according to the U-S attorney’s office, which has prosecuted Bothra and several other doctors connected to pain clinics owned by Bothra.
A number of doctors and medical professionals with links to foreign countries charged with crimes in the Detroit area have fled the country in the last several years. Bothra has eight siblings in India and a $35 million fortune and many real estate holdings, including a $1.99 million island estate.
