Psyche Hospital Finally Leveled; More Work Planned

An 8-story eyesore in northwest Wayne County is no more.

The long-vacant and decaying Northville Psychiatric Hospital is now just a pile of rubble.

Demolition of the facility was completed last week.

The 252-thousand square foot facility on seven mile in Northville township opened in 1952 and was closed by the state in 2003.

The Township bought the hospital property in 2009 when voters approved a special tax to buy it for recreational purposes.

There are still some smaller buildings on the site that have to be torn down.
