School Bond Issues In Today’s Elections

13 school districts have bond or tax issues on the ballot in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties and 7 of them are major bond issues affecting safety and security in the schools.

The largest bond issue in in Lake Orion schools— 160-million dollars. Much of it would be devoted to safer schools, with more secure school entrances and new technology.
Chippewa Valley’s 97-million dollar bond includes new security cameras, new school entrances, panic buttons in offices, along with new technology and state of the art equipment for career and technical education.
Those districts say no millage increases would be necessary for the bonds.

Safety and security upgrades are included in the Wayne-Westland district, which is asking voters to pass a 158-million dollar bond. Improvements in old buildings and new buses are also planned. Utica, the state’s second-largest district, has a 155-million dollar bond issue. Cameras, emergency alert systems, more secure entrances, new buses, building renovations.

Grosse Pointe schools— 111-million… Holly schools, 38-million… Riverview schools, with a bond and a sinking fund… have similar themes.
