Gov. Considers National Guard For Roadwork

Could National Guard troops do the work of heavy equipment operators at road construction sites?

“No, I don’t think so,” says Dan McKernan of the heavy equipment worker’s union, on the Frank Beckmann show.
Gov. Snyder’s office says the governor is considering using the National Guard to re-start work. Major
road projects have been idle for nearly 3 weeks.
The heavy equipment operator’s union refused to bargain with a contractor’s association, choosing instead to bargain with individual companies.
McKernan emphasizes the association locked them out.

Attorney General Bill Schuette says he cannot divulge any advice he has given the governor about the road work stoppage in the state.
Schuette was asked to give an opinion on whether the situation is a contract dispute. if it is, the state could step in.
