State Medical Official Awaits Word On Trial

Doctor Eden Wells, Michigan’s chief medical executive has been waiting for over a year to learn if she will be bound over for trial on charges of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the Flint water crises.

She thought she might learn her fate today.
A preliminary exam on the charges against her took some ten months to complete.

Final arguments in the case were heard two weeks ago by Genesee County District Judge William Crawford.

He had originally said he could announce his decision at a court hearing scheduled for today.

But he then said he wanted to make sure both sides had copies of written transcripts of the proceedings and then would allow attorneys another seven days to file briefs.

The charges against Wells stem from allegations from prosecutors that Wells had known of outbreaks of Legionnaires Disease connected to the Flint River and had failed to warn the public.
Nick Lyon, the state health director, has been bound over for trial on similar charges.
