Gov. Sends Disaster Help To UP

Gov. Snyder says he will call out the National Guard to help in the recovery of part of the western Upper Peninsula devastated by floods brought on by heavy rains last weekend.
The Keewenaw Peninsula was hit especially hard, with roads taken out and some homes flooded.
Snyder tells WJR he has declared a state of disaster for Houghton and Menominee counties.

Public health and safety is a concern due to damaged structures and debris, contaminated flood water, increased emergency vehicle response times caused by road and bridge closures, and loss of electric power and utility services.
