A Detroit police officer, Willie Fortner, is scheduled to appear in court today for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend while off duty in April.
Today’s court hearing is a preliminary exam to review the evidence against Fortner.
Fortner was arrested and charged with two counts of felonious assault.
Fortner got into a fight with his girlfriend on April 21st at Niki’s Nightlife and continued on Beaubian Street.
Two men tried to break up the fight. Fortner went to his truck, pulled a hand gun and pointed it at the two men.
He was suspended by the Detroit Police Department with pay.
