School Employees Get Money Back

Many Michigan teachers and school employees are in line for some financial benefits.

In late December of 2017 the state Supreme Court released a ruling that the state must refund 554-million dollars to some 200-thousand workers.

The court ruled that the 3 percent taken from school employee paychecks to help fund retiree health care from July of 2010 through September of 2012 was unconstitutional.

Unions representing the teachers had fought the deduction.

The money was placed in escrow while th fighter went through the courts, meaning teachers will receive some interest.

The state is expected to start issuing refunds to the school districts today.
