New Factory Coming To Auburn Hills

One of India’s major automakers will open a manufacturing plant in Auburn Hills.

Mahindra will operate a 400-thousand square foot factory in Auburn Hills to build off-road vehicles. Mahindra is one of India’s largest automakers, and is India’s largest maker of SUV’s.
But it doesn’t sell cars or SUV’s in the U-S. It has no dealer network, and would have to meet stricter safety and emission standards.
Currently Mahindra is known for small tractors and scooters.

Mahindra expects to employ more than 100 workers at the Auburn Hills plant. The company is moving it’s technical center from Troy to the new location. And it will renovate a former GM facility in Pontiac to use as a warehouse and distribution center. Mahindra is in the running to build new vehicles for the U-S Postal Service.
