Police And Fire Rally

Police and fire unions will rally their members in Lansing today, to show their opposition to bills to cut the health retirement benefits of police officers and fire-fighters in Michigan. Republicans in the state legislature indicate they’re in favor of requiring retired first-responders to pay at least 20-percent of the premiums on their coverage when they’re retired. Cities and townships say the current benefits are unsustainable. The unions say it’s a slap in the face of the public employees who risk their lives every day to protect the public. Most of the contracts covering current police and fire already include larger co-pays and sharing of premiums.
