Recount Halted Amid Effort To Bill Longshot Challengers

A State House bill would change how ballot recounts are done in the state following Green Party candidate Jill Stein’s presidential recount request.

HB 6097 would require candidates more than 5 percent of the vote behind the winner to pay the entire cost of a statewide recount.

Jill Stein has paid the required $125 per precinct for the cost of recounting the election. The total cost is now estimated to be several million dollars, with taxpayers set to pick up the tab,
The recount was initially set to begin today, but has been delayed due to an objection from Donald Trump and Republicans.
The Board of State Canvassers have scheduled meetings in Lansing today and Saturday to hear the objection and decide whether the recount will move ahead or be stopped.
