Longtime Radio News Veteran and WJR Alum Rod Hansen Passes Away

ROD HANSEN

It is with deep sadness that WJR reports the passing of former WJR reporter Rod Hansen. Rod started his career at stations in Ohio before coming to WJR in 1967. He worked as a street reporter and news director. His specialty was covering the complex federal court in Detroit. He received two Peabody Awards… journalism’s highest honor. His work ultimately lead to the release of a man wrongfully convicted of murder. In his career, Rod earned countless Michigan Association of Broadcasting Awards, Society of Professional Journalism Awards and eventually a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Associated Press. In the last few years, he was the Press Officer for the Federal Court in Detroit. Rod is survived by his beloved wife Chris and his four children, and five grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending.
