Home Depot worker’s “America Was Never Great” hat causes controversy

Krystal Lake, a 22-year-old employee was snapped wearing an hat reading “America was never great” at a Staten Island Home Depot. She says it is a response to Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. According to the Staten Island Advance she said, “The point of the hat was to say America needs changing and improvement, I don’t think it’s a positive message to say, “Let’s look to the past.’”

Many people have taken it not just as a slam against Donald Trump, but the country as well. It’s been causing quite a stir on social media, and Lake has even received death threats.

For its part Home Depot said they do no support the message. In a statement they said, “We appreciate and understand the concerns of our loyal customers. In terms of the message, our associates are not permitted to wear items that reflect political statements. Unfortunately, no one on our management team saw her wearing the hat — otherwise, they would have had her remove it immediately.”
