A plea hearing is scheduled in Detroit Federal Court ton Thursday for the last of the three people charged in a kickback scheme involving the Education Achievement Authority. Paulette Horton was an independent contractor selected as an after-school tutoring vendor. She is facing charges of bribery, conspiracy to commit bribery, and money laundering. She was charged along with former Mumford and Denby High School Principal Kenyetta Wilbourn-Snapp and Glynis Thornton, who owned and operated a tutoring company. Snapp previously pled guilty, faces 37 to 46 months in prison, and will be sentenced on June 1st. Thorton also entered into a plea deal and is to be sentenced on June 7th: she is facing 24-30 months. Prosecutors say Snapp had the authority to hire vendors for the after school tutoring programs and worked out a plan with the other two to receive kickbacks for naming them as vendors.
