Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced he’s seriously considering an independent presidential run. A Bloomberg aide told CNN Bloomberg is looking at ballot access issues, but didn’t reveal the specifics. Bloomberg’s interest in a presidential run comes from his view of the increasing polarization between the Democratic and Republican parties as well as the possibility either Donald Trump or Ted Cruz will face off with Bernie Sanders in the general election. Sources differ as to whether Bloomberg’s run would affect more votes from the Republican or Democratic base. Because of the ballot process, Bloomberg will need to make his decision whether to run for president or not by the first week in March.
